Elon Musk Envisions ‘fun’ But Dangerous Trips To Mars Update

SpaceX’s Elon Musk said Thursday that the first orbital flight of his towering Starship — the world’s most powerful rocket ever built — could come in another month or two. Elon Musk said the first orbital flight of Starship could come as soon as March during a news conference at SpaceX’s facility near Boca Chica Village in South Texas on Feb. 10, 2022. The first manned SpaceX flight took place last May, and the third docked with the International Space Station with four astronauts on board after launching from the Kennedy Space Center on Friday. Elon Musk’s SpaceX may not have plans to send humans to Mars anytime soon — but when it does, those on board may want to take caution. SpaceX remains a young space company, one that is not immune from financial pressures.

Reuters provides business, financial, national and international news to professionals via desktop terminals, the world’s media organizations, industry events and directly to consumers. The company’s partly reusable 23-story Falcon Heavy, currently the most powerful operational space launch vehicle in the world, flew its first commercial payload into orbit in 2019.

On a cool, windy day in early January, parked cars lined State Highway 4, the two-lane road running past the SpaceX facility. Beyond a chain-link fence, a few hundred yards from the street, the latest version of Musk’s Starship prototype stood on its launch pad. Tourists took photos while a film crew shot video atop a nearby sand dune. This area is evacuated during tests, but at other times you can drive right up to the launch pad, which isn’t possible at NASA’s Cape Canaveral. Depositing payloads and reclaiming others in orbit is an added perk to Starship’s stated goal, which is ferrying cargo, and eventually crews, to the moon and Mars. Without a crew, the authors write, there is great potential to unload cargo on Mars as well as to bring back samples from the planet.

CEO of SpaceX Elon Musk has made a bold statement by setting a date for when humans will fly to Mars in his company’s Starship rocket. Rather than using smaller crafts like the Falcon9, Dragon, and Heavy, he wants the BFR to be their flagship rocket. Musk plans on cannibalizing all the other SpaceX products and projects.

The project aims to launch a 165-foot spacecraft atop a massive booster for deep-space missions to the moon, Mars and elsewhere. The head of SpaceX is not the first time he makes predictions regarding the conquest of another planet. Moreover, the timing of the landing of man on Mars was constantly shifted. In 2016, he promised that if everything goes according to plan, then his corporation will be able to deliver the first earthlings to Mars in 2024 or 2025. In 2020, Elon Musk said that he had ambitions to build a thousand spaceships in ten years in order to resettle a million people on the planet by 2050.
